Your location stays on your phone.
Effective date: August 23, 2026
What nudge does
nudge lets you save places you want to visit and notifies you when you happen to be close to one. To do this it needs to know your location — including in the background, which is why it asks for “Always” location permission.
Data stored on your device
- Your trips, saved places, and visited history
- A log of the nudges you’ve been sent, used to avoid repeating them
- Your app settings
All of this is stored in a local database on your phone. We cannot see it — nudge has no backend and we operate no servers that receive your data.
Location
Your location is processed on your device to work out how far you are from your saved places and to trigger nudges. It is not transmitted to us, stored off your device, or shared with anyone, with one narrow exception described next.
Place search — the one thing that leaves your phone
When you search for a place or ask for nearby suggestions, nudge sends your search text and approximate coordinates (your trip’s city area, or your current position) to Photon, an open-source geocoding service by komoot based on OpenStreetMap data, so it can return relevant results. No name, account, or advertising identifier accompanies these requests. These requests are governed by komoot’s own privacy practices.
Directions
Tapping “Directions” opens Apple Maps or Google Maps with your chosen destination. From that point, those apps’ privacy policies apply.
Notifications
Nudges are generated locally on your device. nudge does not use push-notification servers.
What we don’t do
- No user accounts and no sign-in
- No analytics or crash-reporting SDKs
- No advertising and no tracking
- No selling or sharing of personal data — we never possess it in the first place
Deleting your data
Delete places or whole trips inside the app at any time. Deleting the app removes everything, because everything lives on the device.
Children
nudge is not directed at children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If our data practices ever change — for example, if a future version adds accounts or sync — this policy will be updated before that version ships, and the effective date above will change.
